The award aims to build on the expansive knowledge that healthcare support workers already hold, giving them further tools to increase awareness and improve patient outcomes.
Following contributions from support workers in the sector, some of the key considerations included being happy to stay in their role, continue to support colleagues and to provide the best possible care to patients. A statement made by an HCSW resonates with the design of the programme: ‘Being the best I can be and acknowledging my potential.’
As the ‘Careers College’ we take pride in taking this initiative forward in being able to support NHS staff to develop professionally and personally and boost their careers. Ultimately, this will also improve staff retention and help address NHS skills shortages. This is a hugely significant investment in the health and social care sector—probably the first funding to support healthcare training directly.
